A CRAZY IDEA....

It all started as many of these things do, with a little idea to host our own awards ceremony in 2012. We wanted to show that not all the UK’s digital expertise was based in London, there are so many talented agencies in the South as well.

Our experience as a specialist cloud technology partner for agencies gave us insight that the agencies who weren’t based in London really weren’t getting the recognition they deserved! Fortunately, you all agreed and have enabled us to continue to support the regions talent and helped us grow Wirehive 100 to the size it is today. We’re now in our eighth year, and yet again we’re working non-stop behind the scenes to make this the best awards yet.

Each year we review the categories and then amend and expand them to keep up to date with the ever-changing face of the digital industry. The essence of the awards still remains, in the form of the Wirehive 100 League Table (which we’ve made quite a change to this year, check out the category details for more information). This is still more than just a way to keep track of how you measure up against your competition. It’s also used as a reference by companies in the South to find local recognised agencies to work with. The best thing about this award? It’s still completely free to enter!

We know how much time and effort you put in to delivering projects, from the initial development of the marketing strategy, to the creation of a new website or proposing and designing the use of new and emerging technologies. Whilst you are spending the time on these we are focusing on creating and delivering the best awards night in the digital calendar. Each year we want to make sure we are honouring our local roots whilst still showcasing a bigger and better awards ceremony.

If you’ve joined us before then you may have taken a walk-through Hollywood’s Golden Age or even had to join us as we went underground at the Wirehive 100 Speakeasy. This year get your creative mask designing head on (or you could just buy a mask) and join us for an air of mystery and surprise at The Masquerade. On the 17th October, put on your most exquisite mask and finery to join us at Thorpe Park, Chertsey.

Remember, you need to have your headquarters in the South, outside of London. This includes: Berkshire, Bristol, Buckinghamshire, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, East Sussex, Essex, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Isle of Wight, Kent, Oxfordshire, Somerset, Surrey, West Sussex and Wiltshire.

We pride ourselves on ensuring a Wirehive 100 Award is a recognised and credible benchmark of digital excellence. To help us do this we invite an independent panel of established and distinguished digital professionals to judge the entries. We’ll be announcing our judges’ panel soon, make sure you’re signed up to our mailing list to find out who they will be.

Peter Abraham

Co-Founder, weareCrank

Peter's co-founder of Crank (wearecrank.com), a data driven solution to assist digital businesses better understand how to accelerate their growth whilst building their own benchmarks across channel effectiveness, content engagement and purchase optimisation.

He's also the co-author of 'Building the Agile Business Through Digital Transformation' which focuses more on the 'how' of digital transformation and the importance of organisational agility. 

Peter's been in digital since '94, working in agencies as well as a successful start-up.  

Peter Barker

CTO, Rufus Leonard

Peter leads the 30-strong technology team at Rufus and is responsible for delivering properly engineered technology solutions to deliver the promise of our customer experience teams. He built his first website in late 1994 and has been involved in a number of UK digital firsts, including Internet Banking with Lloyds Bank and with Mercedes-Benz creating the first manufacturer platform to sell cars directly to the public.

Since 2001 he has had overall responsibility for Rufus' technology platform choices and the process and standards underpinning how we design, build, run and support business critical solutions for clients such as The Gym Group, British Red Cross & Stagecoach Group. 

Anjulie Blunden

Managing Partner, Adtraction

Anjulie Blunden is the UK Managing Partner at affiliate network, Adtraction. She has worked in affiliate marketing since 2007, and previously co-founded digital attribution consultancy Connected Path, as well as MenteeMe – an app to help digital professionals connect to mentors.

With over 12 years of experience, Anjulie’s previous roles include Operations Director of Awin UK and Performance Marketing Director at Havas Media.

Karunesh Choudhari

Head of Data, Cheil

Karunesh is a commercially driven advanced analytics and technology practice leader, focused on developing and applying leading edge analytics techniques on unstructured and structured data to answer complex business questions.

He specialises in using descriptive, predictive and prescriptive analytics to address strategic issues. He has delivered many projects and built several analytics solutions for large corporations including Caterpillar Inc, Virgin Group, International Gaming Technology PLC, Springer Nature Publication and Cheil.

Michael Flynn

CEO, DataPOWA

Michael Flynn is the CEO of DataPOWA Ltd, a London and New York based data marketing company who have conceived and produced POWA index - AI sponsorship valuation & digital benchmarking for the sports industry. Michael has over 30 years of sponsorship & marketing experience, including 20 years’ in digital marketing.

He was responsible for Bass Brewers’ multi-award winning Carling Premiership sponsorship prior to heading up digital marketing agency Fast Web Media. Here he won numerous awards for clients including the Premier League, Molson Coors and Mobil and a personal award for North West Entrepreneur of the Year 2014. 

Holly Hall

Managing Director, BIMA

Holly joined BIMA as Managing Director in early 2018. She works closely with BIMA's two Co-President's as well as BIMA’s Central Council to shape and deliver the organisation’s strategy and ensure BIMA stays critical for current and future generations of UK digital, driving innovation and excellence across the UK.

Prior to that, Holly spent time as International Business Development Director and Awards Director for D&AD, the global educational charity which exists to promote excellence in design and advertising. 

Charlotte Hillenbrand

Executive Director of Digital & Innovation

With a digital career as old as Youtube, Charlotte was part of the original team at innovation consultancy, Made by Many who are renowned in the digital industry for achieving impactful outcomes with small teams.

Charlotte is ambitious to establish an ‘innovation as usual’ capability within Comic Relief, as it shifts gear to be a creative agency for social change. She brings experience of agile product development and lean innovation working practices, learning initiatives and digital product professional development. She’s committed to supporting the drive for creative organisations to optimise for inclusion.

She is a voluntary trustee of A New Direction, London’s youth agency for creative skills and education and sits on the Create Jobs Advisory Group, an employability programme for young Londoners.

Kerensa Jennings

CEO, The Duke of York Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award

Kerensa runs The Duke of York Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award (iDEA), an international programme aiming to help address the digital skills gap. Kerensa was previously the BBC's Head of Strategic Delivery. Her work designing and delivering the BBC's Make it Digital strategy earned the Innovation Enterprise Chief Strategy Officer's Best Innovation Award. Kerensa is also a Professor, an Executive Coach and a bestselling author.

Kerensa spent many years as a television producer and journalist, working at ITN and Sky before the BBC where she was Programme Editor of Breakfast with Frost, the Election Results Editor, and made a palaeontology series featuring Sir David Attenborough. 

Sarah Junker

Integrated Marketing EMEA, Gartner

With nearly ten years of both in-house and agency experience, Sarah has a diverse B2C and B2B marketing repertoire. Having managed events, website launches, global integrated campaigns and brand partnerships, she joined the team at Gartner to support the company’s marketing efforts. Here, Sarah works closely with internal stakeholders to ensure the company’s B2B marketing efforts are ideally tailored to the EMEA market.

In her spare time, she is a trustee at a small charity advocating for gender equality in the tourism industry, providing marketing and communications support to the team.

Ann Longley

Digital Director, Something New Together

A highly experienced digital leader, Ann has worked across sectors internationally for over two decades helping organisations modernise and grow by leveraging digital content, channels and technology. She has co-designed new products, services, customer experiences and award-winning campaigns for start-ups, big brands, government departments and non-profits. 

She has worked in-house in digital leadership roles with the Prince’s Trust, Disasters Emergency Committee and Hays designing new products, as well as with a leading WPP agency where she established a new business unit and service offering. Her passion is helping organisations leap ahead with customer-informed service design powered by technology. 

Ingrid Olmesdahl

Partner Development Manager, Microsoft

Ingrid has 10 years client services and new business experience in digital and communications agencies, working with enterprise clients in financial services, retail and media.

She has recently joined Microsoft to develop and grow partnerships with large network digital agencies looking to implement AI solutions with their customers.

Niall Wilson

What happens when the media money runs out? Niall has spent over 15 years in the advertising industry, using tech and content to keep ideas active in-between peaks of campaign activity. During his career Niall has worked with world-class brands, agencies and government departments to innovate and disrupt, shortlisted and winning at awards shows including Cannes Lions, D&AD, Creative Circle, Webby Awards, CLIOs and Marketing Week.

Prior to founding M&KE – the integrated tech and content business at M&CSAATCHI – Niall held roles including Managing Director of Craft London, and was Head of Digital at McCann London and the Loveurope Group.
